Device Mesh And Location Brokering

March 5th, 2008

worldmap Two stories reported on TechCrunch today caught my attention as two technologies that I’ve wanted to see for years, and also two areas that, when combined, might make for a major shift in how we use technology. Between Microsoft’s Ray Ozzie talking about device mesh and Yahoo! announcing Fire Eagle which deals with location (and better be paying Ze Frank for the name), there are some interesting possible applications that might prove useful to you and me. Realizing that the people in my crowd that come here to understand how to ...

Was CES Worth It- an Exhibitors Perspective

January 17th, 2008

Justin Rasmussen from GIMP.TV posted this about an exhibitor’s perspective of CES. I found it interesting, because I’ve heard mostly from attendees, bloggers, and traditional press. It’s interesting to hear from someone on the floor, especially someone in the section that CES sets aside for podcasters and new media types.

Small Boxes Lucky 13 - Vegas

January 16th, 2007

Here’s some footage of what didn’t stay in Vegas. It’s mostly the lights and the glitz, but seemed like something fun. You’ll see Jeff Pulver, Robert Scoble, Irina, and a few more in there, as well. The music was Can’t Get Back There, by The Goodbye Plot (I failed to put that on the screen). I got it at The PodSafe Music Network.

The Importance of Being Ready

January 14th, 2007

CoffeeShawp I just completed a mountain of work, dug through about 85 emails in my inbox (still 70 to go), wrote 3/4 of a revised pitch, sent someone what I hope was compelling information, and made a few more travel plans for January (18th and 24-25th in NYC, 31st in DC). I came back from CES with several dozen more action items than I’d left with, and then even THOSE were added upon.

It reminded me just how important it is to be ready.

Heidi Miller Professional Spokesperson

January 11th, 2007

Heidi Miller has the perfect post to help take my mind off the parts of my experience at CES that annoyed me: namely, poorly planned booth experiences.

Ever wonder why that other company’s booth is crowded, and your presentation is a flop? Check out my first vidcast about four strategies for drawing a crowd into your booth, straight from the mouth of a professional trade show spokesperson. Thanks ...

All About You

January 10th, 2007

It’s all about the people. CES was brought to me through blogs and videoblogs. MacWorld came to me via Twitter. I’m on a crackberry blogging to you, because I want to keep you in the loop.

Me. Media. Youdia?

It’s our time, friends. Believe in your voice. Tell the stories. Seize the conversation and extend it out.

Your voice matters. Share it. Make it count. Repeat the exercize often.

Much love to the media makers who I am fortunate enough to know and respect. Meet me this year. Often.

Pulver to Jobs: Do More

January 10th, 2007

I’m in the CES Press Room with Jeff Pulver, who just took Steve Jobs to task for not going further with the Apple iPhone. You’ve gotta read Jeff’s take. I think it’s a good notice to hand Steve, because everyone else is kissing ass, and Jeff’s saying, “Further, Steve, Further!”

Small Boxes 12 - Pioneer Rocks Video

January 9th, 2007

This was the coolest thing I saw at CES. It’s a VIDEO turntable setup from Pioneer, and it was so cool. It let you mix and scratch video sources. I’m told that one model has a composite out, so you could even port your mix to something more recorded and permanent.

But I tell you what: it’s just a cool gadget.

The DJ in this set ...

CES Report From the Floor

January 9th, 2007

CES 2007 Press Room I walked the big room at 2007 CES today, and it was, uh… a lot of TV screens. Just lots and lots of TV screens, a few new colors for MP3 players, and some other tidbits here and there. Sony had a dozen new videocameras to announce, that were probably neat, but weren’t that distinctive. Panasonic had a nice PR guy, but no marketing people.

You know who EVERYONE needs? Heidi Miller and Laura Allen. Mannnnnn, I saw so many bad pitches. ...

Interview with Drew of Pluggd In Podcast

January 9th, 2007

Here’s an audio podcast interview I did with Mr. Drew Olanoff for his great startup, Pluggd. I’m reporting my lack of great technologies found at CES 2007.
