Motorola have gone live with an awesome competition for those of that are a bit creative with old digital video - how do you fancy winning (a) one Motorola Z10, and (b) £10,000? Yes? Then read on!

The competition
The competition is extremely easy to enter. Entrants should pick a ‘logline’ from the list below (‘logline’ being film industry speak for a one-sentence summary of a film’s plot. For example, Alien’s original logline was “Jaws in space”) and use it to form the basis for a short film of ...

Post-MWC roundup…

February 16th, 2008

3gsm.png

So Mobile World Congress (MWC) is all done now, and for me personally it was a hectic period - probably too hectic, on reflection. Lots of deals were done, alcohol consumed - oh, and there were some Mobile devices and services there too. Below are just a couple of offbeat observations from the show:

  1. People are still calling it 3GSM rather than MWC - the show has changed quite a bit in the last few years, and this is one of the significant changes - however I can't help think ...

Quickie: JCB Phone!

February 8th, 2008

jcb1.png

Just a quick post on a handset that isn't especially new (i.e. it's been visible on the interweb for a little while), but has suddenly popped on to the radar of a number of UK phone-vending websites!

Having been to both a number of times in my line of work, I would suggest if you can, you try and get ...

Apparently the MPH In-band Mobile DTV system utilizes a “Mobile Microtuner ™ chip” from a company called (surprisingly, you might think), Microtune. Microtune are supplying the chipsets for the demo devices that LG are using at CES, including the mobile devices, and navigation aids.

For those of you who are interested in the details:

“Microtune’s Mobile MicroTuner MT2260, part of the Company’s suite of products for mobile and portable TV applications, is a multi-band, single-chip tuner engineered for high performance, high integration, and low power. Designed with a patent-pending architecture and ClearTune™ filtering technology, the tuner is implemented in ...

LG and Harris announce new Mobile TV broadcast offering

January 17th, 2008

Whilst we are on the topic of Mobile TV, I thought I would mention the latest variant, announced at CES. LG, along with Zenith and Harris Corporation, used CES to announce a new Mobile TV broadcast offering, called MPH (Mobile Pedestrian Handheld) – or MPH In-band Mobile DTV system, to give it it’s full name. There is some conflicting information as to whether this is an entirely new standard, or whether it’s capable of supporting other standards – however the killer point will likely be how applicable the technology will be to numerous mobile scenarios.

Clearly LG has some ...
