Need a Invite to Show Stoppers

November 29th, 2007

Last year during our wall to wall coverage of CES we did not have an invite to Show Stoppers. Largely because we were new to the show. This year we will have a team at CES again, and are looking for a invite to Show Stoppers.

With the 100 Video Interviews we did reaching well over 13 million people we have the reach to get the companies participating some exposure. If your company is going to be at Show Stoppers my team would love to stop and see you during the Show Stoppers event.

If anyone has a ...

GBM InkShow: CradlePoint Technology’s CTR350 Cellular Travel Router

November 29th, 2007

cradlepoint 2007_11_28_20_53_36 003 11_28_2007 10_09 PM_0001   I love my usb-based broadband aircard. Even more, though, I really love being able to share that broadband signal with those around me, whether that be. There are ways of doing internet connection sharing in Vista and XP, but it doesn't come close to the simplicity of sharing the connection over WiFi.

“Behind Closed Doors”

November 29th, 2007

WMG It’s amazing how titles will often bring back memories of songs and such was the case with this Engadget Mobile post that was entitled "Microsoft shows next version of Windows Mobile behind closed doors".  It immediately reminded me of a great song by CHARLIE RICH called: Behind Closed Doors. So, in any event, it appears as if the cat is finally out of the bag (of course we knew it was in there) and ...

CTitanic’s First Impressions of the Avox UMPC

November 29th, 2007

I was impressed with this Ultra-Mobile PC form factor when I saw it at last year’s CES as the Medion. (Was it that long ago? Wow.) Well, now that same form factor (also known as the Gigabyte U60) is now also the Avox being distributed by Ruvo. Frank “CTitanic” Garcia has his hot little hands on one and is offering up some first impressions of this VIA processor powered UMPC.

Alltel Wireless + Goo Goo Dolls = Free Concert

November 28th, 2007

googoodolls We are starting to see a lot of companies featuring big ticket bands in their PR efforts. At CES 2006, I had a chance to see the Killers at a Microsoft / MTV after party, CES 2007 brought 3 Doors Down in for a free 1 hour acoustic concert (which my video was removed from Soapbox for copyright violation recently. MY VIDEO THAT I SHOT. Oh well.), but nothing beats the event that Sandisk put on a few weeks ...

Compal Dedicates Full Team To MIDs

November 28th, 2007

MidMobile Internet Devcies (MIDs) are coming. We expect to see quite a bit about MIDs at CES in January. Since Intel’s announcment in April there has been news coming out bit by bit. But here’s something that will raise a few eyebrows. Compal, the Taiwanese manufacturer (ODM), is dedicating a full team to the MID platform, separating that team out from its laptop and UMPC efforts. They are looking for quite a bit of growth in the market in 2008.

Laser TV a No Show?

November 28th, 2007

What was missing on Black Friday? I didn’t see any rear projection models with solid state lasers as a light source. This design is supposed to be the answer to why rear projection sets don’t sell. Lasers will eliminate the costly projection lamp and never need to be replaced. Lasers also require simpler optics, so the case can be thinner and the expensive optics can be streamlined. The result is a lower cost, thinner design that may compete effectively against plasma and LCD flat panels. Manufacturers are calling these “Laser TVs” to distinguish them from the traditional microdisplay rear ...

Get Ready for the Tablet PC/UMPC Meetup at CES

November 28th, 2007

Ces07meetup1It’s
coming and you don’t want to miss it. Lora
Heiny
has posted up some info and a request for assistance in planning the 2008
Tablet PC and UMPC Meetup at CES. This community gathering has been growing each and
every year, and I have to admit that it was one of my highlights from CES last year.
Where else can you gather in good fellowship with fellow users, OEMs, ISVs, and see
so many great Tablet PCs and UMPCs?

It looks like this year’s …

Canon’s Portable HD DVD burner bypasses the need for PC Capture

November 27th, 2007

DW-100

It’s no secret that although DVD camcorders are popular for their convenience, they aren’t necessarily better than miniDV. But not everyone who has a miniDV camcorder wants to edit video. They just want to burn to DVD and watch it on their big screen. Canon’s new DW-100 DVD recorder bypasses the need for a PC and burns video via a direct connection.

Able to burn both SD and HD DVDs, the DW-100 can encode in both MPEG2 and AVCHD. Additionally, although the basic concept is to bypass a PC for burning ...
