How serious is Nokia about using social media to take the next step?

September 30th, 2007

flipping-the-funnel-2.jpg

Nokia is doing an absolutely fantastic job using the power of the internet to promote their products. I’ve had the pleasure of partying it up with their word of mouth marketing team in London at the Go Play event, having a few beers with the Multimedia eMarketing Manager here in Helsinki and more recently I’ve been reading about the adventures and shenanigans that happened in Los Angeles a few days ago at a bloggers only event.

Something that got me thinking was the fact that the bloggers, ...

AT&T Tilt and Samsung i-760 side-by-side

AT&T Tilt and Samsung i-760 side-by-side

Mobility Today has the scoop on the (real) AT&T Tilt photo (the second phone from the right). There were plenty of fake photos out there over the week-end. They published this side-by-side photo with the Verizon Samsung i-760 (video) that we presented at CES (the first from the right).

While both devices are very attractive, I think that they are also quite bulky. I think that I’ll stick to my BlackJack for ...

HTC Advantage, HTC Mogul, or the HTC Libra (Qwest Fusion)?

September 24th, 2007

OK, it’s not often that so many devices fall into my hands in the same week, but last week was wild. I don’t care who you are, there is no way humanly possible to review all 3 phones at once. I never thought about trying it, but being the “boss” gave me the chance to choose. Sure, I could have done them one at a time over the next couple weeks, but that would be selfish. So, what I had to do was choose which one I wanted and send the other two phones to members of our review ...

Video: Cellphone with a DLP projector inside, look how far we have come

September 20th, 2007

I’m speechless. I literally don’t know if I think this is the most awesome thing I’ve seen or the most useless gimmick on Earth. Popular Science and Engadget attended a press event in NY called Pepcom where Texas Instruments showed off their pico projector technology. The device will be able to create a 15 inch projection in a well lite room and shipping versions will use LED based technology to minimize heat and size. When will the be available? “We don’t think a ...

Warner Bro's TotalHD Delayed Indefinitely
Combo HD-DVD / Blu-ray discs fail to launch.
by Gerry Block

September 17, 2007 - Very early this year in the pre-CES buzz, Warner Brothers made some headlines by announcing plans to manufacture and distribute movies on a combo format for the next-gen players. Dubbed TotalHD, the discs were to offer HD-DVD content on one side and Blu-ray on the other, thereby alleviating buyers' concerns about choosing the wrong side in the format war.

Warner Brothers did originally offer ...

Xobni: Hey Nokia, snatch these people up before Microsoft does

September 19th, 2007

I don’t care what anyone says, email is still a killer app and many businesses wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t invented. Yes social networks are cool, but they all fail to be transparent. Anyone can call or text me, anyone can email me, I shouldn’t have to join Facebook to contact you, nor should I have to spend time I could be working inputing my life story into MySpace. The social networks I join are based on interests I have: A BMW forum, a S60 forum, a Nintendo DS forum, etc. Email is still, at the end ...

Sony Internet Video Link

September 17th, 2007
Sony Internet Video Link
CES 2007 was when Sony introduced their Internet Video Link for Bravia televisions, bringing you Internet content on the TV by hooking up with AOL and Yahoo!. This sounds pretty spiffy, but on the other hand it does leave you with limited access to only Sony's approved partners. Well, the Internet Video Link is now available for $299 and setting it up is a cinch. All you need to do is connect your Internet-enabled Ethernet cable to it, while USB and HDMI outputs are hooked up ... Read entire article

  • 2 GIG of RAM
  • 80 GB Hard drive 802.11 abg

The Community of TechCrunch (and the TechCrunch40)

September 17th, 2007
I'm sitting here today at the TechCrunch40, listening to various companies pitch their wares to the people and press that are attending (I'm here as invited press, so will give overview of the companies and what I thought).

I have been thinking about community lately - and how community is involved in PR (and how we have lost our way in community). And the real interesting thing for me here at the TC40 is the community of TechCrunch. We all know that if your client / company is on TechCrunch (the site), you get an immediate bump ...
